What is COSCI?

COSCI stands for : Colchester Overseas Students Christian Initiative

Established in 1995, COSCI represents Christians and Churches in the Colchester area who want to offer a warm welcome to international students studying in Colchester.

Currently, the COSCI team is made of eight people: Joan Davies (Co-ordinator), Elizabeth Rickards, Michael Eavery, Philip Edwards, John Heliwell, Audrey Castle, Peter Clarkson and Manik Corea.

We offer:

1. Introductions to local people (hosts) who will from time to time invite you to their home for meals, etc.

2. Introduction to British people for help with English conversation and practice.

3. Church visits and the opportunity to find out about Christianity through small informal discussion groups, VISA courses, Bible studies, etc.

4. Special events, like the annual Christmas dinner and the summer BBQ, trips to local places of interest and further a-field.

5. Regular joint events with other Christian organisations at Essex University, like World Cafe, Dunamis on campus.

COSCI is not only a link between overseas students and British people but it also allows us to make friends of different nationalities.
One of the most important things we found in COSCI, was a friendly smiling face when we arrived to a completely unknown environment. That is priceless.
