A BIGGER FRYING PAN
Two men went fishing. One man was an experienced fisherman, the other
wasn't. Every time the experienced fisherman caught a big fish, he put it
in his ice chest to keep it fresh. Whenever the inexperienced fisherman
caught a big fish, he threw it back. The experienced fisherman watched
this go on all day and finally got tired of seeing this man waste good
fish. "Why do you keep throwing back all the big fish you
catch?" he asked. The inexperienced fisherman replied, "I
only have a small frying pan."
Sometimes, like that fisherman, we throw back the big plans, big dreams,
big jobs, big opportunities that God gives us. Our faith is too small. We
laugh at that fisherman who didn't figure out that all he needed was a
bigger frying pan; yet how ready are we to increase the size of our faith?
Whether it's a problem or a possibility, God will never give you anything
bigger than you can handle. That means we can confidently walk into
anything God brings our way. This is a good story that illustrates how
small our dreams really are compared to the dreams the Lord has for us. I
hope this simple story ministers to you. God is a big God and He has big
dreams for each one of us. The Bible says
that God created us in His image (Genesis 1:26). That means just as He is
big and powerful, God has big and mighty dreams for us to accomplish as
well. Many times we listen to negative criticism and let that affect the way
we dream and pursue our lives, but my friend I encourage you to lay hold
on the big things God has for you to do. Call out your healing, call
out your prosperity and believe God to accomplish every big dream the Lord
has laid on your heart. With God all things are possible (Philippians
4:13).
Read and meditate on these scriptures:
Jeremiah 33:2-3 "Thus saith the LORD the maker thereof, the LORD
that formed it, to establish it; the LORD is his name; Call unto me,
and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou
knowest not."
James 1:5-6 "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that
giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given
him. But let him ask in faith,
nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven
with the wind and tossed."
Psalm 111:1-5 "Praise ye the LORD. I will praise the LORD with my
whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation. The
works of the LORD are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.
His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth
forever. He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the LORD is
gracious and full of compassion. He hath given meat unto them that fear
him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant."
Jeremiah 29:11-13 "For I know the thoughts that I think toward
you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an
expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto
me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me,
when ye shall search for me with all your heart."
